LAMBERT CRITICIZES RPT STATE CHAIR
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 7, 2008 HOUSTON, TEXAS - Tim Lambert former Republican National Committeeman for Texas said today that he was extremely disappointed and appalled that grassroots Republicans were forced to go to court because the Republican State Chairman would not agree to change long standing party practice at its state convention which clearly violates the Texas Election Code and Republican Party rules. Lambert also expressed his disappointment that the State Chairman did not give clear direction to the county chairman of Nueces County in a dispute regarding party rules. In this situation as well, Republican delegates were forced to go to the 13th Court of Appeals who issued an opinion that the County Chairman should immediately comply with the Texas Election Code and party rules and dismissed the Republican Party of Texas' request for damages for frivolous pleadings[1]. Instead of providing strong leadership to follow the Election Code and the Republican Party of Texas rules, the State Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas has chosen rather to support those violators of the law and rules and to punish the grassroots delegates seeking a fair and a lawful convention. [1] On May 31st, RPT Chairman Tina Benkiser characterized the Nueces writ as "a frivolous lawsuit" and stated the party would seek sanctions. The opinion issued by the 13th Court of Appeals, however, "DENIES the 'Motion to Extend Time to File Response to Writ of Mandamus, Motion to Dismiss and Motion for Damages for Frivolous Pleadings' filed by the Republican Party of Texas." |
